Free piles of knowledge...

Another Monday here at The Biggest Loser at Fitness Ridge Resort. This morning I hiked a trail called Barrel Rowel. The trail only had minor ascents and gradual descents and went on a bit more than 7 miles. I used my cool little Polar monitor for the first time so I could get a good idea of my caloric burn during the day. On this particular hike, I burned just over 1,100 calories. I expect I'll burn a fair amount more on the rest of the week's hikes as they will be far more challenging with a much greater ascent.

After the hike we had our usual breakfast and then went into our first lecture. Today's lecture was on creating a life time line from age zero to now and identifying "event(s)" that may have triggered a thought that could have led to weight gain by associating an emotion with a behavior that would then create a belief...right or wrong. So, the order is Event, Emotion, Behavior, Belief. For example; when I was 13 I learned that The colonel from KFC and Santa Claus were not the same person (event). This confused me as I always associated gift giving & receiving, holiday spirit and so forth with the colonel's original recipe (emotion). So, when I was happy I would eat fried chicken breasts, white meat; but when I was very angry I would order a bucket of dark meat!(behavior). This led me to think that if I ate enough fried chicken, and got others to as well, the colonel could rise up and grow a full white beard to go along with his fu man chu, get lasik eye surgery so he didn't have to wear those dark framed thick glasses, and travel the world late at night leaving huge buckets of fried chicken for all to enjoy! (Belief) But as we all know, chickens can't fly long and they certainly can't pull a chicken sleigh. But, how many wars could have been averted if only Fried chicken diplomacy would have been given a chance?

I hope you enjoy the photos I've posted below from today's travels. T-6 days until I can go home and see the fam!

I'm very happy with my weight loss progress when compared to huge boulders, Mountains and a cliff.

This pool is filled once a day on average. Have you ever considered what might happen if 60 plus size people jump in at the same time?

Today's lunch was tuna salad with orange circles, string beans and an assorted, colorful pile.

Today's dinner was an orange pile with a miniature roasted chicken breast on top. And, lest I forget, asparagus disguised as a food foundation!

The End!

  1. Should have posted earlier than this, but better late than never right? Hey - that could be a mantra at the ranch! Just wanted you to know how much Robin and I have enjoyed reading about your journey. You have the best sense of humor! We wish you the best. Keep laughing!

I did get to watch Bastian's game Thurs. He did great. He grins the whole way around the bases.

PS your dinner reminds me of when I would make lincoln logs out of asparagus when I was kid.

  2. I dunno. Those "piles" look yummy to me. I haven't loved Colonel Santa since the rumor of fried chicken with gooey white pockets of cancer being found in them spread a decade ago.

  3. If it's true that you "eat with your eyes first", you should be half-way full before you even take a bite! Keep it up, buddy! You make me proud and besides being dang funny (as others have already mentioned), you are also very inspirational! I bet your family can't wait to have you home again. Love ya from Wisconsin :)

  4. In old cookbooks they would include a description of the recipe. It would go something like this - 'A cheesy meat dish your family will love!' Followed by another recipe described as, 'A meaty cheese dish your family will love!' It looks and sounds like dinner was lunch re-invented. It looks delicious and I'd totally eat it...I'm just sayin'. - Krista
